Close observation was the throughline from fine arts to UX.

Close observation was the throughline from fine arts to UX.

Painting trained composition and attention to detail. Graphic design added visual communication and systems thinking. Teaching shaped how I listen, adapt, and communicate across different audiences.

Those skills carry into UX. They show up in what I notice during interviews and how I translate findings for different audiences.

Background

My path to UX wasn't linear. A BFA in Painting built a sharp eye for composition and detail. Professional graphic design work developed my ability to translate ideas into visual form. Years in education shaped how I approach research and collaboration. Listening and adapting are part of the daily work in a classroom, and the same skills carry into interview rooms and stakeholder conversations.

After completing a UI/UX Design certification through Designlab, I've led usability audits, mixed-methods research studies, and end-to-end product design for B2B SaaS platforms, nonprofits, and mobile apps. The thread across the projects is research that gets specific about what's actually happening for users, rather than confirming what was assumed at the start.

Beyond Work

Research gave my curiosity a framework. It had been showing up in studios, dance floors, and trails long before that.

What I'm Seeking

Opportunities where research is part of how decisions get made. Collaborative design cultures where early-stage thinking is shared openly across roles.
